Abigail Matetich
2012 Gutsy Walk Honourary Chair

My name is Abigail Matetich and I'm 11 years old. I live in Stratford with my mom, dad, sister and newest family member, Golden Retriever Baxter! In Fall 2009, after losing 14 lbs., along with being constantly tired, and severe stomach cramps, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. With the support of my family and Dr. Howard, I have turned a negative in my life into a positive by helping each year to raise money and awareness in my community. I have helped with the local M&M Meat Shop BBQ, given an awareness talk to my classmates as well as fundraised each year at the Gutsy Walk. Help us find a cure!

Riley Millman
2012 Gutsy Walk Honourary Chair

My name is Riley Millman; I am 14 years old. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease March 16th, 2009 and have been fighting for a cure ever since. Before I was diagnosed I had gotten very sick; I was down to only 68 pounds when I was 11. I'd been seen by several doctors, but no one had the answer. We were finally on the right path when my mom brought me to London ER. There are many people who have gotten me to where I am today. Please join us for the Gutsy Walk and help us FIND A CURE!

Leslie Myers & Peytra Nowakowski
2012 Gutsy Walk Honourary

Chairs Leslie Myers… Each day when my feet hit the floor I have to contend with how I feel and move forward the best way I can. I have had to learn what "my normal" is. This disease is a part of me, but not who I am. I have come to accept the disease, and have learned how to cope.

Peytra Nowakowski… As a single parent, I know financial burden, travel time, prescription costs and the inability to be confident in choosing a career because of the disability this disease can create. But, I've learned compassion, patience and a sense of graciousness for times of remission. We are first cousins, battling Crohn's disease for 20 yrs.

My name is Elaine Mahovlich, and my son's name is Ryan. Thanks to Ryan's strength, determination and personality, he has given us a positive approach to living a somewhat normal life.

Ryan has a college degree, full time job, and is involved in sports. I hope to share my experiences with many parents and families. Please join us for the Gutsy Walk & help us FIND A CURE!

Kyle Smith
2012 Gutsy Walk Honourary Chair

Seven years ago, when I was 11, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. At that time, my family and I had never heard of UC or Crohn's. We have since learned that many people suffer from IBD. I have dealt with a lot, flare ups and all they involve. They knock me down, but once I have healed, regained my strength and go into remission, I carry forward! I will not let it control my life or stop me from pursuing my goals and every day life. I don't worry about tomorrow and what it may bring, I live for today!

Kyle
